ECO-FRIENDLY DUTCH FURNITURE TAKES SOUTH AFRICA BY STORM
Van de Sant, a Dutch design firm in partnership with NetDecor, has arrived on South African shores - bringing with it great ambitions of a sustainable future for all. Using recycled materials, Van de Sant creates beautiful, luxury furniture that not only looks great in any environment, but is also comfortable, functional, and most importantly, good for the environment.
Plastic waste from our oceans create the sturdy frame of each piece, not only reducing the amount of plastic waste destroying the world around us, but by also creating jobs for local communities. Completing the circle of sustainability, the furniture can also be recycled and redesigned after use, ensuring eco-friendly products which never go out of style.
The range consists of chairs, sofas, tables and recliners suitable for both indoor and outdoor, in nine mini-collections: Somerset, Toronto, Luzon, Atlantic, Palau, Pacific, Biarritz, Tonga and Tuvalu, each inspired by islands and oceans they were named after.
Van De Sant founder, Robert Milder said: “Our furniture is designed to prevent deforestation, reduce plastic waste and CO2 emission, creates local jobs and is 100% circular. We have proven that a sustainable vision can lead to design and comfort.”
This UK Dragons Den featured product was recently revealed to the South African public during a launch event at Dainfern Golf and Country Estate, as well as at the prestigious Hotel Show at Gallagher Convention Center. Here, the company showed great promise of fast-becoming the future of furniture in the corporate and hospitality industries.
NetDecor’s founder, Miranda Reeder said: “ We are thrilled to be partnering with Van De Sant as we see this as not just a fantastic initiative to reduce plastic waste and be part of the circular economy but we are also in talks in setting up local production facilities both here in South Africa and in the Indian Ocean Islands”.
